Padres Hire Michael Brdar As New Hitting Coach

Finally, Damion Easley is on his way out. I should just be calling the shots at this point since he is now off the squad too. The San Diego Padres 2021 season was straight up embarrassing, in which the team finished 79-83 with constant injuries to the pitching staff and streaky hitting for the offense that was referred as "Slam Diego" after making history in 2020. I have wrote in a previous article on the Padres' record when scoring a certain amount of runs, and it certainty was not a fun one to write. So does Brdar answer the Padres' struggles as he joins a new staff with Melvin and Niebla?

Brdar, formerly a hitting coach this past season for the San Fransisco Giants, opened many eyes as the Giants were the most surprising team this season all around. The Giants won the NL West in which people thought it would be between the Dodgers and Padres before the season, Giants hitters had fantastic seasons that would be argued the best of some players' careers. Recently retired catcher Buster Posey was outstanding for example. Other players including Crawford and Belt had career years too at the plate.

So what could the Padres be potentially getting in Brdar? Let's take a look at what the Giants did with the bats in 2021. The team averaged 4.87 runs per game (7th overall) while slugging .436 as a team with an OPS of 0.762 (4th). Giants hitters were also very patient at the plate by working counts and drawing walks often.

This is what the Padres need to get back into the swing of things like they did in 2020. Every single time they stepped up to the plate that year, opponents feared that runs would generate right away and they did. This is also a sign that the Padres are expecting all or nothing from players and staff. If you do not impress when putting on the jersey now, you are gone within a short time period.

I know this is rather a short read but it gets to the point. I am not the happiest camper right now with the fact that Adam Frazier just got traded to the Seattle Mariners, but we will see how that works. Keep on the lookout for an article on that and since Frazier is now gone, it seems that Hosmer will be staying put at first base with Cronenworth or Kim at second. Maybe Brdar can make Kim a fearsome hitter and have him become an everyday starter! You never know and that is the beauty about baseball. Let's hope for a very good 2022 season now with some new coaches taking control.
